Technology is going fast even in the transports. Many manufacturers are working on the project of future types of vehicles (buses, vans, trucks and trailers), but also new types of drivers: more qualified, especially in commercial logistic and in driving alone.
For example, the intelligent cockpit: not a typical cabin, but a place where the truck driver is constantly informed about the navigation, the traffic situation and his route, through a voice assisted system. He can control the menu using gestures, as well as with the V2V and V2I communication.
Another futuristic system of transportation, is the possibility to have a batch of trucks from various manufacturers. Each different truck can be linked to a batch, where every truck can be driven within a distance of 10 to 15 meters between them, reducing fuel consumption and taking up less space on the roads. This link can also be of great help to inform drivers about critical situations, for example falling asleep while driving. Sensors activate the alarm and they video monitor the driver’s state of fatigue.
Then, the autopilot becomes more innovative: it can control maneuvers in the street, plan the right parking spot, manage digital payments and book the usual table in a restaurant if the drivers want. Finally, it is possible to have a better system when the drivers arrive at the dispatch station. The truck arrives and it offloads its goods in less than 30 minutes with a complete automatic system. A network system activates to control the truck if there are any problems and the driver can connect with other colleagues to exchange goods and to avoid the problem regarding empty trips.
