In spite of what one might think, Italy has taken first place in terms of transparency on polluting industrial emissions in the European Union.
The European Environmental Bureau (EEB) has created an online platform for tracking industrial pollution, called Industrial Plant Data Viewer. A way to clearly assess, in black and white, data on those three thousand European large plants and their emissions of greenhouse gases and pollutants.
The EU, in fact, asks these industries to provide specific annual compliance reports and the expected environmental performances, but this work is not always successful: these industries work in a sort of “bureaucratic opacity” and above all do not meet the minimum standards required by the industry with regard to transparency. Germany, for example, was in last place.
