A colossal agreement has been made between Bosch and Qingling Motors and will deal with the development, assembly and commercialization of hydrogen-powered fuel cell systems. The collaboration, called “Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems”, will be based in Chongqing in China, to conferm a commitment that has lasted for several years between the two large companies in the Land of the Rising Sun. The aim will be to develop the mainly Chinese fuel cell market by aiming at a new type of engine that will see the registration of over one million vehicles of this type by 2030.
The Chinese automotive sector will therefore be strengthened, through the construction of components such as fuel cells, electronic control unit with sensors and compressor with power electronics, all elements produced in the Chinese plant in Wuxi. Already seventy Qingling trucks equipped with the Fuel Cell Power Module will see the light next year, with the system launching in series in 2022 and 2023.
On the other hand, the future of this type of mobility must necessarily move towards this type of energy transition: especially for heavy and large vehicles, hydrogen fuel cells can have better results than the battery electric propulsion system.
However, it is not the only example Bosch has brought forward regarding the industrialization of fuel cells: the company is also pushing in this area in the factories in Bamberg, Feuerbach and Homburg in Germany and, together with Powercell, owned by Sweden, is working on the fuel cell, to be able to commercialize it on a large scale in 2022.
