Veritas, the multiservice environmental company that serves 29 municipalities in the metropolitan city of Venice and 7 municipalities in the province of Treviso, presented the first report on water traceability, carried out at a national level and analysing the results of 2020.
As reported in it, the chemical analyses carried out in 2020 in the laboratories of the Veritas company were 2470, with the monitoring of 37,000 chemical, physical and biological parameters.
There are materials, such as oils and fats and sands, that have been entirely recovered, unlike some materials that are only partially recovered, such as sludge (45%) and sieve solids (99%). The rest of these materials is disposed of.
Thanks to Veritas purifiers, it is possible to remove 96% of suspended solids, 89% of phosphorus and 76% of nitrogen present in the wastewater of the Venetian lagoon. In addition, oxygen demand is significantly reduced to oxidize polluting substances (-91%) and degrade organic substances (-95%).
It follows that at the end of the treatments carried out by Veritas in its own purifiers, 99.6% of the purified water complies with the legal parameters and it is therefore possible to release them into the environment.
Consequently, in 2020 88,847,726 cubic meters of purified water were returned to the most important water basins in the area: about 45% was released in the Adriatic Sea, 20% in the Venice Lagoon, 19.5% in the Brenta, Sile and Piave rivers and the rest to the minor hydrographic network. An important result, which could help reduce water scarcity and the problem of drought.
